Compost BinThere was a compost area already here when we moved into our house, but it was made poorly from mismatched pallets, and was falling apart and ugly. I urgently needed to remedy it. And a few years later I did just that.

I went to the lumber store (and mill!) and got some rough-sawn hemlock 2×4’s. Holy moly those things are heavy. They were also totally wet, the screw holes oozed.

It’s a pretty simple design. I bought the wood in 12′ lengths and left the long pieces full-length. Most of the wood I cut by hand with one of the new $2 handsaws that I recently got that work amazingly well, but about 12 pieces from the end, I sawed into my piece of junk plastic miter box something bad. So, instead of getting a new disposable miter box, I thought I’d get a circular saw and get a real miter box when I can find one. The cheap Skil saw that I got did the job fine.

The next part is to dismantle the old compost bin and move what’s in there to the new spot. Not looking forward to that.
