We try to compost all of our kitchen waste. The problem with that is that it can get quite stanky. We had a metal pail for a while, but it was too big and after a while the smell was like a punch in the nose. We used plastic bins, but they were ugly. So I made this thing to hold a small plastic bin with a sealing lid.
What the pallet looked like before.
I used a pallet for the side pieces, scrap for the rest. The pallet was pretty nasty before I cut some pieces off, brushed them with a hard-bristled brush and ran them through my new thickness planer.
I had no plan, as usual, just cut stuff and stuck it together before deciding what to do next. If I had to do it again, I’d do some things differently, but it’s perfectly fine to hold our rotting food waste.
